Mrs. Lula Viola Crayton was born December 26, 1933 in Clarksville, Texas where she also received her formal education. Lula,(LV) as she was called by many, quietly transitioned from labor to reward on January 6,2018. She was a dedicated and faithful cosmetologist for La Coiffure Hair Salon until her retirement. Lula accepted Christ at an early age. She married Melvin W. Crayton in 1955, to this union seven children were conceived. Mrs. Lula Viola Crayton was born December 26, 1933 in Clarksville, Texas where she also received her formal education. Lula,(LV) as she was called by many, quietly transitioned from labor to reward on January 6,2018. She was a dedicated and faithful cosmetologist for La Coiffure Hair Salon until her retirement. Lula accepted Christ at an early age. She married Melvin W. Crayton in 1955, to this union seven children were conceived. Lula became the “First Lady” of New Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her Late Husband Pastor, Rev. M.W. Crayton until his death. She then served as “Mother of The Church” until her passing. Lula was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, she could always be found providing words of wisdom and showing love as God loves us. Her infectious smile touched the lives of everyone she met, making strangers feel as though she was their own family. She was a genuine, kind, heart-felt and generous person. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. M.W. Crayton, her parents; Artavan McShan, and Lussia Hodge; siblings to include: Leon and Matthew Hodge, Kerry Carter, Ocie Hodge, Eva Lois Walker, Lubera Eggins, and Lois Ross. Also, three daughters: Lussia Crayton, Priscilla Crayton, and Deloris Johnson. Lula Crayton is survived by 4 children and 5 brothers, 5 sisters, 29 grandchildren, more than 70 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Her children left to cherish her memories are: Jerry Crayton (Rosetta), Anthony Crayton, Elvin Crayton (Jeri) all of Dallas, TX, and Shirley Reagor (John) of Ardmore, OK. Surviving siblings include: Howard (Dorothy) Hodge of Oklahoma City, OK, Preysol (Johnnie) Hodge of Littlefield, TX, Tommie Hodge, Larry (Trudy) of Odessa, TX, and Charles Hodge (Paula) Hobbs, NM, Doris Randolph of Grand Prairie, TX , Vestella Williams of Littlefield, TX, Bernice Henderson of Los Angeles, CA, Linda Wilson(Woody) of Dennison, TX, and Sister- in- laws Mary Hodge and Glenda Carter of Dallas, TX.
